Constance Weisner, M.S.W., Dr. P.H.
Dr. Weisner is Professor, Department of Psychiatry, University of California, San Francisco, and Investigator, Division of Research, Northern California Kaiser Permanente. She has a MSW from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Weisner’s overall research program addresses access, treatment outcome, and cost effectiveness of alcohol and drug treatment in public and private settings, including managed care.
Dr. Weisner is a member of the International Expert Advisory Group on Alcohol and Drug Dependence of the World Health Organization and the National Advisory Council of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. She has participated on several committees of the Institute of Medicine, including "Broadening the Base of Alcohol Treatment" and "Managing Managed Care."
Published works include studies of the impact of financing and social policy on substance abuse treatment, cost-effectiveness of treatment, and epidemiology of alcohol problems among treated and untreated populations. She is the Principal Investigator of NIAAA, NIDA, and RWJF research grants that study the cost and effectiveness of alcohol and drug treatment interventions, including a study of utilization and cost of treating adolescents and adults with co-occurring disorders. Dr. Weisner works closely with Kaiser Permanente programs on policy issues and developing best practices.
