Jon Morgenstern, Ph.D.

Jon Morgenstern, Ph.D., is Professor of Clinical Psychology (in Psychiatry) at Columbia University, and Director of Addiction Treatment in the Department of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Medical Center. He is also a Vice President and Director of Treatment Research at the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA).

Dr. Morgenstern is a strong advocate of combining cutting-edge research with quality patient care. He currently divides his time between directing an active treatment research program funded by the National Institutes of Health and overseeing the Substance Abuse Treatment Program at NYPH.

Dr. Morgenstern's interests include examining the effectiveness of manualized evidence-based behavioral interventions in community settings. He conducted one of the first studies examining the effectiveness of CBT and was Co-PI on an effectiveness study of Motivational Interviewing. In addition, he is interested in alternative bi-directional models that foster the integration of science into practice. He is currently PI on four studies whose broad aims include developing and testing novel interventions that coordinate social services, health care, and substance abuse treatment for economically disadvantaged substance abusers.
