Self-study for re-accreditation is now underway
Dear Friends,
For countless men, women, and young people in recovery from addiction to alcohol or other
drugs, the road to lasting freedom began with the expert care and guidance of an addiction counselor.
The Hazelden Graduate School of Addiction Studies is uniquely dedicated to educating exceptional counselors, and with graduates now in 48 states and 31 countries, the Graduate School's reach and impact continue to grow. Regional accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association is one way we ensure the school's continued growth and excellence.
Having achieved initial accreditation in 2007, which extends through 2012, it is now time for the Graduate School to embark on a two-year self-study for re-accreditation. A cross-functional Hazelden steering committee has been chartered to guide all aspects of the self-study, from design and implementation to analysis of final results. Committees comprised of representatives from Hazelden's information technology, development, marketing, facilities, finance, and human resources departments in addition to Graduate School faculty, students, staff, and leaders will review evidence and examine how well the Graduate School fulfills the five criteria necessary for continued accreditation.
A comprehensive report will be compiled at the study's conclusion, and four reviewers from the Higher Learning Commission will conduct a three-day site visit to further substantiate the Graduate School's effectiveness in fulfilling each criterion.
The self-study provides an outstanding opportunity to closely examine the Graduate School's effectiveness in preparing students for service and success in the rapidly changing and increasingly complex field of addiction treatment. As the self-study advances, we will provide ongoing updates on this Web site about our activities, our discoveries, and our opportunities for further growth and advancement.
Sincerely,
Mark G. Mishek
